Apex Open to Novel Submissions November 1st

From Apex:

We are open to novel submissions for our book line from November 1st until November 30th.
  1. We are looking for dark science fiction novels.
  2. Submissions must be between 50,000 and 100,000 words.
  3. Use standard manuscript format
  4. Please send a query letter in the body of your email, and attach the first three chapters and a 1-page synopsis of the book as .doc or .rtf files. All three chapters should be a single attachment, with the synopsis as a separate attachment. Submissions containing other file types will not be read.
  5. Email submissions ONLY. Please send to apex.novels@gmail.com
  6. No multiple submissions (i.e., only send us one query package at a time—don't send the next until you hear back from us on the first).
  7. Simultaneous submissions are okay.
  8. Remember to include your contact information--including real name, pseudonym if applicable, email address, and phone number—in both your query letter and the manuscript.
Expected response times: We will endeavor to answer all queries within one month. If your full manuscript is requested, it may take up to three months for a decision.

Some query letter tips:
Keep it brief and to the point. Just introduce yourself, tell us the genre and word count, and sum up the most important aspects of the story in a sentence or two. Previous publishing credits are great, but not having any won't hurt your chances.

Compensation terms:
We will be paying an advance as well as royalties against the advance.

Things I Meant to Blog About But Ran Out of Time, Energy, or Just Plain Forgot

  • Jen reads Randy Ingermanson's blog and he talks highly of this (free) Simple.ology course. Jen's been following the course and I haven't. I had decided to give it a shot, started it, and never got past day one. So I started again today. Which leads me to the next bullet point.
  • I'm evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they're letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

    It covers:

    • The best blogging techniques.
    • How to get traffic to your blog.
    • How to turn your blog into money.

I'll let you know what I think once I've had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it's still free.

  • Stephen King will appear on NBC Today January 22. If you have questions for Mr. King, see this blog.
  • The premiere issue of Mused: The Bella Online Literary Review is live! Heather, one of my crit partners, has a great story in it. Did I mention I'm on the fiction editing team? Submissions are open for the next issue. Hurry and get your story in!
  • Submissions are also open for Coach's Midnight Diner. Did I mention I was on the editing team of this one, too? Surely I did. :)
  • Did you read about my newest venture? Send me an email if you're interesting in purchasing one for yourself or someone special. Remember, they're totally customizable. Project Lifebook:
    Part I
    Part II
  • I think that's it. But y'never know. I might be back later with more.

Submit to BeMused now!!

I'm exited to announce submissions are open for BeMused! (I'm on the fiction team!)

BeMused Submission Guidelines

Mission
Showcase original work of talented women and men in traditional and experimental modes. All authors/artists must be 18 years of age or older. Submissions sought to coincide with issue's theme and in general along BellaOnline's missions of women, empowerment, charity, the environment and of course artistic/literary merit. We publish quarterly - on the equinoxes and the solstices.

Subject Matter
We strongly believe in the reputation and friendly atmosphere that BellaOnline has created. No erotica, no rape, no nudity, no profanity, no fan fiction, no article reprints. Of course, original work only.

Editing
All accepted works subject to minor editing for length and appropriateness.

Response Time
We auto-reply for receipt of all recipients, and send a follow-up email on acceptance or rejection of a submission. We will reply to submissions within 6 months. All decisions of our editorial board are final. If your entry is not accepted, you can resubmit after one year.

Rights
Submissions should be unpublished elsewhere on the web, as we will acquire first, worldwide electronic rights. Artists/writers understand they are submitting their work at will and thus the submissions are always their property. Rights revert to the author immediately after publication

Submission Details
All BellaOnline review submissions are done online, using our online form. No other submissions shall be accepted.

Payment
At this time we do not offer payment - only fame and notoriety via byline, bio and publishing links.

Submission Guidelines
Fiction

The power of storytelling is what women and men have used throughout history to help shape their communities and forge their own paths. Fiction can take one away to an imaginary world or cause one to pause and self-reflect. It can make us laugh, cry, and even change our way of life. This is the type of fiction BeMused seeks to publish: Stories that enchant, delight, reflect on womanhood, femininity, men relating to women, families, self-growth, change, or courage. Or course, we remain open to any good fiction, so do not look at these guidelines as all-inclusive.

The best writing, the clever and artistic use of language, plot and character which will attract the Fiction Editorial Board to publishing your piece.

Details: Please send up to five original stories of no more than 5,000 words in length. No gratuitous or graphic violence, porn, or overly moralistic stories, please.
