No Wonder People Hate "Christians" in America

First Dobson's unbelievably stupid, "Letter from 2012." Seriously--this is the highest order of stupid.

I'm seeing some things that are pushing the limits of my anger.

As seen on a message board:
"It saddens me that people say God's will is Obama be president. Why would God want another godless person? I voted for a righteous man, that McCain would win. And even the name of Jesus did not allow this righetous man. I hope God can do something to have McCain win, there is too much shaddyness with Obama. And I make pennies as it is why have Obama take more for the 'shareing of the pie?'"

Another message board:
"Obama is the Anti-Christ and I have proof. Obama hails from chicago whose zipcode is 60606 (do you see the three sixes ?)

Obama would be a "black" president in the "white" house (satan is described as black in attribute and who seeks to take over the white mansion known as heaven)."

Website:

  • Nostradamus prophesied “Mabus” would either be the Antichrist, or the forerunner to the trueMabus.

  • Nostradamus set the year 2012 as the end of the world. The Mayan calendar comes to an end in 2012. Obama's presidency would end in 2012!

  • A simple word play on this phonetically ironic name will generate Barack=Iraq, Hussein=Saddam (Hussein), Obama=Osama (Bin Laden). Antichrist. Obama+bush=obamabush

  • He will come mounted on a white Female horse(Obama mother is white who had 12 African husbands and lovers)

How many Anti-Christs have there been so far? This proves Phil's theory that stupid breeds stupid. This is a special kind of stupid.

Seriously. What is wrong with you people?

It's not like this is just a random occurrence. This shit is all over the internet.

I'm not certain about our economy, our government, our country, and many other issues in life, but folks, that's life! Why do you need to blame someone for your misfortune and your misunderstandings?

Ack! This stuff makes me ill.

Geez, that really is a special kind of stupid. Regardless of who you voted for, I can't believe that crap exists. Where did you find that stuff? 60606, give me a break! I wish those people would just come out and tell it like it is, that they are racist and they're using religion as a way to hide behind it. If they actually read about the issues they would know the truth.
Ugh, makes me SO mad too Michelle.

ooooo, you said a bad word.

that website stuff makes me laugh. That's the big problem with the Internet. Suddenly everybody is an expert and has a place to say anything.

the first message board comment makes me sad. McCain isn't the savior either. I hate what politics does to people who should know better.

Jen--Google "Barak Obama Anti-Christ" and wade through the unbelievable STUPID stuff.

I mean, if these people read their Bibles at ALL it would totally surprise me. Reminds me of Jesus attacking the political mantra of his time. (not saying I'm Jesus, lest anyone should be so crazy as to think that!!) LOL

Monica--yeah yeah, I said a bad word. Is there a better word??

Wow, a special kind of stupid indeed! But you know, this sort of thing happens whenever there's any kind of change. Whenever the world takes a step forward in "acceptance", all these bigots and idiots come out of the wood work. It is sad, but it's nothing new, and unfortunately, I don't think it's anything that'll go away anytime soon.

It's up to the rest of us to not let their voices be the ones that represent us, you know?

It's incredibly disappointing. I read most of Dobson's letter which was complete alarmist bull. It boggles me that anyone would believe it because it contradicted itself all the time, not to mention most of what it said can't happen. Do these people not realize that the laws in place to protect my religion (paganism) also protects theirs?

Did you see the guy on Shocklines that said that gay marriage violates his freedom of religion by forcing him to be okay with homosexuality? What about OTHER religions?? How is one religion ruling the country not violating the religious freedom of all the other religions in the country?

If it helps all religions have those kind of people. Even pagans have their idiots.

What grieves me most about this election is the vitriol spewed from both sides...the most grievous being from the Christian community. My kids go to a Christian school and ... I'm ashamed at how they were treated because they dared say positive things about Obama. Don't get me started on conservative Christians in my SS class :/ (99% of 'em). Nothing as ridiculous as this, but still, disturbing :(.

Hey...I MISS you! And owe you a BIGTIMEOVERDUE email.

Karina--I wish the bigots and idiots would go away!!

Michele--you're right about all religions (all groups of people for that matter) have their idiots.

Robin--I'm so sorry your kids had to go through that. That's simple deplorable.

Michelle... I'm glad you're willing to call out these people for what they are.

I blocked someone on twitter yesterday for misquoting Scripture and spouting some seriously scary theology. Her tweet: "will be a man,in his 40's,of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language... book of revel. chpt 13" Now hon, Islam didn't exist when Revelation was written, and this is a blatant misquote (I looked it up). I sent her a tweet, asked her to pray for unity rather than stirring up dissension, told her she should probably look up Scripture before quoting it, and blocked her.

When do we get to move past this, understand that Obama is our President-Elect (regardless of who we might have voted for), and support him with our prayers? Most of the bloggers I respect have said as much, and many were vocal McCain supporters.

I have seen a few Obama supporters who have been less-than-gracious winners, but that's another story.

Pray for peace, people. Pray for unity. Pray for Obama and the trials he faces. He will certainly need all the prayers the American people can lift up.

I linked to a brilliant post on Brad Ruggles' blog from my blog yesterday, incidentally. And now I'd like to go back into my apolitical hidey hole. =)

Seriously, I feel sad now. Well, I felt sad before, but still... Sometimes Christians just make me tired, you know? Luckily, there are tons out there who voted for Obama, and tons that voted for McCain because they liked him, not because Obama was the antrichrist or anything like that. There are rational people out there!

Well, where to start? The people you quoted in the comment threads really are ignorant and stupid. And irritating. And make us look bad.
Now to come out and risk looking like I agree with anything stupid - which I don't - but I just have to say:
Although the idiots in the comment thread are just the biggest dolts on the face of the earth, I went and read the Dobson letter, and although 3 or 4 of the points are extremely alarmist, I gotta say, some of it is already in the works and NOT a stretch at all if you are paying any kind of attention to the news around our country. Of course the way it is written is a little melodramatic . . . why not just list possible outcomes of extreme leftist policies? Why all the DRAMA? Just say it, damn it. So to write off everything in that letter as stupid is a little naive, imho. Have you talked to a religious liberties lawyer lately?
And just a side comment to Michelle Lee above, while you as a pagan may not have a problem with others believing and practicing the Christian religion, surely you must realize there are MANY people with extreme hostility to Christians that ARE actively fighting to have some of the very things in that letter accomplished. Not in the future. Already in the works.
Just sayin.

Lisa--I need to go read that post.

Kim--I'm beginning to lose hope that there are more idiots than rational people!

Gin--Dobson (and that guy from the 700 club, what's his name?) They ruin their testimony by doing stupid shit like this. That's the stupid part. They MIGHT have some valid points, but you do something ignorant like this (or the other guys saying Katrina was God's punishment) you lose ANY respect people may have had for you.

Nowhere in the Bible are we told to dictate other people's morality. If the Christian community would worry half as much about themselves, things would look MUCH different.

And while I understand the sidenote to Michele, there's also a lot of discrimination towards other beliefs (from Christians) and I've experienced it first-hand when I was agnostic and then atheist.

Every law written in our country dictates morality. Not one single law DOESN'T dictate morality, that's the purpose of law - dictating to society what it can and can't do.

And we can all agree there are stupid Christians that discriminate against other beliefs (just like there are stupid Muslims, Jews, Mormons and everything else) but much like racism in America is obviously self correcting itself out of its stronghold on society, I think Christians can self correct stupidity out. By speaking out against it, like you were. However, I still think we shouldn't throw out the baby with the bath water by writing off everything in that letter as stupid when a lot of it is already happening.
Striking a balance is important in all things, I say.

Just want to make it clear that I think the letter is melodramatic and stupid - I just don't think every issue in the letter is.
Ok. I feel better.

Well, that's just dumb. There are a ton of reasons not to like Obama...his tax plan, his socialistic tendencies...the way he dissed a cripple old lady for no reason...(Yeah! He made fun of Nancy Reagan. He did apologize for it, though, so that's good. But, man, it was out of nowhere and what did she ever do to him? I mean, anyone with ears like his shouldn't be talkin'. LOL!)

But this....Wow! That's just sad.

No, I don't like him, didn't vote for him, but instead of running around calling him the anti-Christ (and come on...that's giving any politician an awful lot of credit) I extrapolated where I see his policies as heading and wrote a sci-fi. So, jeez...do something useful people.

If you don't like him, go teach young people about the value of supply side economics; write intelligent, readable articles on the different economic systems and why Capitalism kicks all of their butts. But this Obama as anti-Christ crap...man, what a loser argument.
