I have two that come for the sushi bar (aka: the goldfish in my pond) and I've NEVER been able to be quiet enough or quick enough to get a photo.
This afternoon, we packed a picnic dinner and headed to Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife area today to see the yearly Sandhill Cranes migration. J-P has a wonderful observation deck and WOW!!!
I absolutely adore Sandhill cranes (and Blue Herons) and have never seen so many in my life. I was told that there'd be more than four or five thousand birds a little later in the season. I must go back!
Here's the field when we first got there.
Aren't they amazing??

That is fabulous, Michele. It's a true glory of the natural world. I wish I could have seen it.
I've heard that November is a great time to see them out there. We always "intend" to go, but most of the time, the weather is uncooperative (imagine that!)
They are simply beautiful!
Great shots! What a fun treat.
Thanks everyone!
I AM going back in November. And hopefully at least once a year after! It is spectacular--to say the least!
Wow, they are amazing!
That's unbelievable. I've never seen so many in one place! When lived on a small pond in Crown Point and had regular crane visitors.
Wow! That is awesome! I'm going with you in November! :)
