Sit down for this one. I will be reading a romance novel.

I have taken the romance novel challenge. Brenda Coulter said that people who read her blog don't read romance. Well, she was right about a couple of us. I was one. I took the challenge and am waiting for my TWO romance novels to come in.

I'm sure I'll have plenty to talk about as I'm reading them. Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I'm not against chic lit. (Ok, are romance novels considered chic lit or is chic lit something different?!) I have no clue. I'm just not into it. I don't think romance novelists are somehow lower on the imaginary totem pole. I don't think they cheapen the industry. I know there's a market and they are filling the need. Some are called by God to write Inspirational romance. What's wrong with that? Nothing! I've said it before, we all can't be hands. If we are the body of Christ he certainly does not call all of us to the same things.

He calls people to ministry, correct? Yes. We know that. When someone is called into ministry that means they're going to a foreign country right? Oh wait. Hmmm...there are other ministries you say? Pastors. Youth Pastors. Men's leaders. Women's leaders. Sunday School teachers. Missions. Crisis Center volunteers. The list is endless isn't it?

So if one is called by God to write are they all called to write the same kind of book?

Let me know what you think. I'm thinking maybe we each have our own place in this ministry.

I rarely get story ideas that don't include some romance. I think God just made me this way, a lover of love stories.

I like to read mystery, science fiction, romance, fantasy, and definitely stories with humour. :)

I agree.

My Atlanta Christian Fiction Writing Group changed its name last week at our writer's retreat, because some of us(myself included) didn't feel called to write the romance novel. Although their is an romantic subplot to my WIP it does not drive the story. I think what Brenda is doing is fun and helpful. I am a Romantic Times reviewer, so I have my share of romance books to read. :)
