The "freak" weather of the last few decades--stronger hurricanes, more tornadoes, intense heat waves, to name a few--has signaled to scientists that the climate is changing rapidly and unpredictably. Events such as these were precursors to cataclysmic changes in the past. The great Mayan civilization was knocked out by drought in a few generations. The Little Ice Age battered Europe. Within a decade, freezing temperatures increased and incessant storms brought starvation, disease, and death to millions. Could this happen again?
Thermohaline circulation could be interrupted by the melting glaciers and excess of freshwater into the thermohaline circulation system. Thus changing the gulf stream and pretty much all of the weather patterns as we know them, therefore much of North America could be froze. It has happened before, as the program explains. The Little Ice Age is thought to have played a key role in Black Death In all honesty, that makes more sense to me than "global warming" making New Jersey a rain forest.
I also watched Decoding The Past-Doomsday 2012: The End Of DaysThere are prophecies and oracles from around the world that all seem to point to December 21, 2012 as doomsday. The ancient Mayan Calendar, the medieval predictions of Merlin, the Book of Revelation and the Chinese oracle of the I Ching all point to this specific date as the end of civilization. A new technology called "The Web-Bot Project" makes massive scans of the internet as a means of forecasting the future... and has turned up the same dreaded date: 2012. Skeptics point to a long history of "Failed Doomsdays", but many oracles of doom throughout history have a disturbingly accurate track record. As the year 2012 ticks ever closer we'll speculate if there are any reasons to believe these doomsayers.
OK, call me a geek now. No, wait. First you should know that I've long been fascinated with the Mayan civilization. Yes, the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012, but what I've read is that the winter solstice 2012 is the beginning of an the age of transition.

Um, but Revelation predicting Dec 21, 2012 as doomsday? Gotta say, I don't see it. What I see is Christ saying we won't know the day.
