Zane: God's Grace

When we picked out Zane's name, I didn't know it mean God's Grace. Hindsight is 20/20. Zane has said that he's going to be a pastor since he was 3. He's now almost 7 and still sticking to that dream.

We were coming home from soccer practice on April 26th and Zane started questioning me about which time zone we were in now. If you're not familiar with Indiana, up until recently, only part of the state observed Daylight Savings Time. My mom lived in that area. The rest of the state did not which meant we were on EST sometimes and CST other times. Makes life confusing for a kid learning to tell time!

Zane was pretty good at knowing when grandma was an hour behind us. However, this new law that now requires that we observe Daylight Savings Time has thrown us all for a bit of a loop. Now we're on CST all year (with grandma) and we go to church in EST.

So, we're on our way home from practice talking about the changes. I explain, "We are forever the same time as grandma now that the law has changed."

Zane asked, "Forever?"

I said, "Well, yes, forever or until they decide the law should change."

"Forever is a really long time, mommy."

I said, "Yep, it sure is. But we get to spend forever with Jesus, so that's a good thing."

Zane said, "Only if you ask Jesus into your heart and do good things, right?"

I said, "Well, no. That's not exactly how it works. Yes, you must ask Jesus into your heart, but doing things good or bad has nothing to do with spending forever with Jesus."

Zane said, "But asking Jesus into your heart means you get to be with Him forever, right?"

"Yes. That is all. You ask Him to come into your heart and then you're His forever. Nothing can change that. When you do bad things, you just ask Him to forgive you," I said.

"And you don't have to ask Him into your heart again, right?"

I said, "That is absolutely correct!"

Zane said, "I did that, mommy."

"You did what?"

"I asked Jesus into my heart when I was five."

I was astounded, "You did?!"

"Yep."

"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked.

He said, "I didn't know you would want to know."

Thank you Lord Jesus for this child! And thank you for pouring your grace on him at such a young age!
